CitizenPAM Competition

Your chance to get involved!

We are excited to launch our Citizen Science competition, where we invite individuals and groups to test our prototype PAM hydrophones in real-world freshwater environments!

This is your opportunity to propose innovative ideas for using the prototype hydrophone system to monitor aquatic ecosystems and to help gather valuable data.

The winners will receive the use of a prototype hydrophone system to test their ideas and hypothesis in early 2025.

We are looking for participants who...

  • Have a clear passion for environmental conservation, invertebrate monitoring and freshwater ecology
  • Have a unique and innovative idea for applying the PAM hydrophone technology
  • Ability to monitor a broad range of environments or a distinctive habitat
  • Have a method to collect and organise the data efficiently
  • Relevant and actionability of the data for environmental and scientific purposes
  • Can demonstrate the ability to handle large amounts of data and potentially have experience in data collection and analysis
  • Entries will also be judged on creativity, feasibility and potential impact of your proposed project

Key Dates

Competition Launch: 18 October 2024

Application Deadline: 17 March 2025

Winners Announced: 2 April 2025

Projet Period: From Easter 2025

Enter Here...

  • Submit a 500-word proposal on your innovative application for the PAM hydrophone system
  • Criteria as seen above
  • 6 winners will receive a full hydrophone system to test their ideas and hypotheses
  • To register your interest and receive your entry pack (or if you have any questions) please email email.

FAQs

What is PAM?

PAM is a technology that uses underwater microphones (hydrophones) to listen to sounds in freshwater environments, helping us monitor aquatic life

Who is eligible to enter?

The competition is open to any individuals or groups in the UK and beyond. The use of a couple systems will also be dedicated to ideas from young minds of school age

What do I need to submit?

You need to submit the project proposal form with you innovative ideas and applications of the PAM hydrophone system

What can I win?

Winners will have the opportunity to use our prototype hydrophone system to test their project ideas in early 2025
